Mother of three (one with Downs Syndrome), former Territorial Soldier, former Director of the Southland Museum, former CEO of the successful Southland Institute of Technology and implementer of the ground-breaking Free Fees Scheme, and now National Member of Parliament since 2020 for Invercargill. Penny Simmonds certainly does not let the grass grow under her feet and is always busy. An engaging and entertaining speaker she espouses her passion for education and disabilities. Currently she is the National Party Spokesperson for Tertiary Education, Early Childhood Education and Disability Issues as well as Associate Spokesperson for Education and Social Development and Employment.
