We continue our series of Regional Economic Updates and invite you to join us for another in-depth discussion and Q&A as we delve into the region's economic trends, challenges and opportunities with a special focus on manufacturing, productivity and business growth.

The Manawatū region closed 2024 with promising signs of recovery, buoyed by strong export returns in dairy, beef and horticulture, alongside a rebound in tourism and improved consumer spending. Encouragingly, New Zealand’s manufacturing sector returned to growth in early 2025 for the first time in nearly two years, creating fresh momentum for business confidence and innovation.
Yet, despite these gains, global uncertainty continues to pose risks. Geopolitical tensions, policy changes in the U.S., and volatile global markets could impact trade and inflation – especially in key export sectors like red meat and dairy.
On the upside, expected cuts to the Official Cash Rate (OCR) and new trade agreements with partners across Asia and the Middle East may help offset these pressures, paving the way for business investment, productivity improvements, and long-term resilience.
